June 23, 2008, Woburn, MA, USA: Lytron announced today that it has invested in a new aluminum vacuum brazing oven. The new oven, which is Lytron’s third at its manufacturing facility, allows for brazing of parts up to 10 feet (3.05 m) long and 3 feet 2 inches (0.97 m) wide. Although the majority of vacuum-brazed cold plates and plate-fin heat exchangers can be brazed in one of Lytron’s other ovens, there are some special applications that require much larger components. Lytron purchased the vacuum brazing oven in order to meet the diverse needs of its OEM customers as well as to expand its overall brazing capacity.

In 2006, Lytron obtained an additional computer numerical control (CNC) machine through its Lockhart acquisition. The CNC machine can accommodate parts up to 10 feet (3.05 m) long. In 2007, Lytron purchased a second coordinate measuring machine (CMM), which can inspect parts up to 10 feet (3.05 m) long. Together, the equipment allows Lytron to manufacture as well as inspect very large components in-house.

Lytron vacuum brazes thousands of parts per year. Prior to vacuum brazing, cold plates and plate-fin heat exchangers are assembled in an environmentally controlled room for maximum yields, cleanliness, and quality. Lytron’s computer controlled vacuum brazing process and unique, robust fixture designs ensure strong and reliable metal joining that meets the demands of both commercial and military customers.

Lytron's standard and custom cold plates, cooling systems, and heat exchangers are found in the medical, laser, military/aerospace, power electronics, analytical, and semiconductor markets. The company engineers custom components and systems for OEMs as well as provides off-the-shelf standard products to OEMs and end users.
